Mayor Tom Wootton’s First Day in Office

Mayor Tom Wootton brings a wealth of experience, enthusiasm and knowledge to his new role after being a councillor since 2002.

Mayor Tom Wootton said, “I’m incredibly grateful to the residents of Bedford Borough who have given me the opportunity to represent them as their Mayor. It is an honour to get this chance to act on behalf of the people and places that mean so much to me.

“We all know Bedford’s best days are ahead of us and by working alongside my new, energised cabinet, we can make it happen. Our team cannot wait to start bringing forward the positive changes that the residents and businesses of our Borough deserve."

The new Mayor has hit the ground running; spending his first day working alongside the newly appointed team to plan the implementation of his initial priorities.

Today’s work included:

·      understanding the background of the East-West Rail decisions,

·      driving forward the development of Wixams Rail Station,

·      discussing the review of the Open Spaces Management Charges, and

·      seeking advice on the team’s ambition to look again at the 2040 Local Plan.

Mayor Wootton added, “After an amazing first day, I’m excited about tomorrow.”
