Sport in Bedford
The River Great Ouse runs through Bedford, and as well as being the cornerstone of the town’s cultural and commercial heritage, it has also played a huge part in the sporting heritage of the town, and with two boat houses, an annual regatta and bi-annual river festival, rowing is one of the town’s major sports. Rugby is the main sport of both Bedford School and Bedford Modern School, and with several rugby clubs and pitches, Bedford can be considered “a rugby town”. That said, football, tennis, athletics and cricket can all give rugby a run for it’s money, not to mention netball and swimming!
