‘Sunday Staycation’ at The Embankment Hotel – don’t let the weekend stop!

Sunday doesn’t have to be the end of the weekend! Enjoy a fabulous meal and overnight stay by Bedford’s beautiful river at The Embankment

If you want to extend your weekend and  fancy a relaxing break away with good food and stylish surroundings then you really don’t need to go far. The Embankment Hotel set in a stunning location offers a fantastic deal for a ‘Sunday Staycation’.

We decided it sounded like a great opportunity to review this offer – and we weren’t disappointed.  A warm and friendly welcome on arrival plus early check in for 2pm, offering plenty of time to relax in the room.  We took a lovely walk along the river and then sat outside with a chilled vino and a beer, watching the world go by and enjoying the river views –also joined by some rare sunshine!

Time flew until dinner and the menu at The Embankment never fails to delight with tonight being no different. Tempted by the range of choices including gourmet burger specials, fresh fish and succulent Aubrey Allen steaks, the choosing took a fair while and two large glasses of the South African Chenin Blanc Voigner seemed to help! Starters of warm, crispy Camembert Pan fried Native Scallops & Monkfish with Artichoke and Red Pepper risotto were opted for. Excellent choices too especially the Scallops as they offered a different twist when accompanied by the risotto – filling and very tasty.

One of the best steaks I have ever had followed… 28 day aged Rump Cap Steak absolutely cooked to perfection. Simply dressed with a peppercorn sauce on the side, chunky chips and fresh rocket salad I think it’s hard to beat this when it’s right. And it was.

That said, the Herb crusted Lamb loin was a good contender and, again, perfectly cooked; accompanied by tender and well suited vegetables of baby carrots and leeks. With a full favoured jus, it was a succulent and generous dish!

A rest before desserts… Delicious choices including Chocolate & Salted Peanut Brownie and warm Bakewell Tart with clotted cream tempted, but all that was needed was a refreshing Lemon and Mango Sorbet.  I opted for an Espresso Martini; not exactly dessert but not having a sweet tooth, this is always a ‘last glass’ treat. The cheese boards are also amazing and had it been Christmas we may have forced it but this time we were beaten!

Being the last to leave the restaurant is always a sign of a good evening. It was a wonderful meal and a shame when it was over! Time to retire until the next treat of breakfast…

The rooms have all recently been refurbished to a very high standard and are beautifully elegant, chic and contemporary with plenty of space to relax. Flat screen televisions and tea and coffee facilities plus the extra touches of antique furniture all add to the style. With a river view, it felt like a very special space to be and the Kingsize bed was wonderfully comfortable. It was very quiet too, all you need for a relaxing undisturbed night.

How lovely to wake up overlooking our beautiful river…

Even nicer to be able to sit outside for breakfast. From American style pancakes to full English, smoked salmon Royale, plus cereals, pastries and croissants, you are spoilt for choice. So a Full English and Free-range Poached Eggs & Toasted Sourdough it was! Perfect eggs and all was hot and fresh.

Finally time to leave, felt like a mini holiday and was a day and evening of wonderful food and relaxation. One to remember and certainly one to recommend.
