StageWrite is Bedford’s only annual festival of new writing for theatre, and returns to The Place in May. The festival is a collaboration between local companies LifeBox Theatre and No Loss Productions, and aims to provide a platform for both emerging and established writers to see their work performed by professional actors and hear reactions from audiences.
It also aims to bring fresh new theatre into our region, so that it’s closer to home and more affordable than many London venues.
Harri Mardlin, one of the Creative Directors of LifeBox Theatre said, “We wanted to make StageWrite happen again this year because it’s been so well received in the past. We’ve loved reading the plays submitted – 63 in all – and making the selection for our final line up.”
Four performances will take place as double bills over two nights, and will be followed by a question-and-answer session with the writers, directors and actors. Previous plays from the festival have gone on to be developed and performed at Bedfringe and on tour.
One previous audience member said, “StageWrite excelled my expectations; although performances were ‘script in hand’, production values were very high and felt like fully rehearsed productions.”
